The Lovebullies were beyond thrilled to record a new single with Cowtown's most decorated producer, Russell Broom. This guy! He's the real deal - we can't wait to share the fruits of our labour with you! The song? "I'm Not That Kind" which, if you're a Kris Demeanor fan, you'll recognize from his version of it on his Party All Night album.

The Lovebullies ended 2023 with a bang! We raised an ELEPHANT sized amount of money for one of our favourite charities, Elephant Artist Relief, at the mighty Ship & Anchor. People came out in droves and bought everything we had on auction, all kindly donated by our favourite artisans, painters, service providers and merchants. Calgary's legendary generosity was on full display - thank you for helping us support EAR, an invaluable charity that provides financial relief to artists in need. We also played a wonderful event to celebrate AMAAS and Sharon Stevens passing of the torch to Vickie Van Chau, the new head of Alberta Media Arts Alliance Society.

The Lovebullies were sad to hear of Cal Cavendish's passing, may he rest in paradise. Cal was one of Calgary's most prolific songwriters, and definitely one of this city's most colourful characters. Lovebullies Joni and Chantal both played in the band for the play written by David Van Belle about Cal, Buzz Job, with music by Kris Demeanor:
"It was Calgary’s first oil boom and everyone was making a fortune – except folk singer Cal Cavendish. On April 11, 1975, his boomtown frustration peaked. He jumped into his single-engine plane, buzzed the Calgary Tower and dropped 100 copies of his latest record, along with 100 pounds of horse manure, onto 9th Avenue...."
So long, Cal - til we meet again, friend.

The Lovebullies had an absolute BLAST at the Blues Can last Thursday. We're still glowing thinking about how much fun we had - Calgary has the best crowds!
AND we had an amazing weekend!
On September 23 we got to walk the red carpet at Calgary International Film Festival!
Two of our songs are in the film Hailey Rose, written and directed by Sandi Somers.
Here's a photo of us on the red carpet with our excellent friend, Bryson Waind, whose song Empty Sidewalks was also in the film. He and his girlfriend Tracy are the bookends, not to mention the bee's knees!
Then on September 24, we got to rub elbows with our friends at the YYC Music Awards! The Lovebullies were nominated for Group of the Year - a huge honour! Congratulations to The Royal Foundry, who took home the prize (well deserved!) and all the nominees and all the music-lovers of Calgary.

Who's coming to Heritage Park?! Our set tomorrow (Wednesday Aug 9) starts at 6pm and it's FREE! Bring your lawn chairs and umbrellas, or parasols if you don't like umbrellas. We've heard from artists and patrons that this open-air stage is a favourite for sightlines, sounds and chill vibes.

Well the Calgary Folk Music Festival was everything we'd hope for and then some! Tanya Tucker slayed, The Lovebullies PLAYED, and wow was it fun! So many amazing artists, so many great memories. We did a collaborative session with Art Bergmann (godfather of Canadian punk!), we jammed with Pantayo, we met Cynthia Hamar and her beautiful band, and we played Nothing Compares 2 U with Jenn Grant and Wendy McNeill! Thanks Kerry, Olivia, Rica, John and all the staff and volunteers and sponsors who make this festival happen - can't imagine Calgary without it!

We had SO MUCH FUN at the South Country Fair! We played the volunteer BBQ on Thursday, we splashed around in the river, we visited with pals, we marvelled at artists like Buenrostro, Wendy McNeill, L'Omelette, and many more! We love this festival so much - thank you for the hospitality! Up next: the Calgary Folk Music Festival! We are beyond thrilled...

Don't forget to come to Mikey's tomorrow! We've got some special treats in store, including special outfits, some great covers, and we promise you a dandy good time! We're also taking Chant's new (but old as in 'vintage') National lap steel out for a spin! And if you haven't yet bought your tickets for the South Country Fair or the Calgary Folk Music Festival - what exactly are you waiting for?! Both these festivals are going to be AMAZING and we'll be at both. Don't miss out!

We're getting ready to play a private party for two of our favourite party girls! It's going to be epic and we apologize in advance for keeping the neighbours awake! Hopefully they've all been invited and will be at the show! P & M: we love you and we're so excited to be playing your special event!

What a great night we had at the Village Brewery Taphouse with Deicha & the VuDudes! We loved not only every minute of the gig (thanks everyone!) but also the BEFORE: MAKING OUR OWN CASK OF BEER! It was so cool walking around the giant vats, getting introduced to the fine art of making damn good beer, and then Caroline and Chantal got to christen 'our' beer with lemon and honey! We got to sample it the night of the gig and it was a delight. Oh and the AFTER: MEETING FANS FROM MONTANA! They found us through our Stampede City Sessions tv show that we shot in 2019 and still occasionally airs on PBS. Here's to cross-border drinking! Looking forward to our Blues Can show on June 22, then it's full speed ahead for our BUSY JULY! Wouldn't want it any other way.

We are beyond thrilled and honoured to be included - both these festivals have fantastic lineups and we're so looking forward to taking in all the sun, music and fun. And you may notice that we have some new band photos! Thanks for the fun photo shoot, Sebastian Buzzalino from Unfolding Creative Photography.

Check out Calgary artist Violet Costello (violet_costello on Instagram!). She's an incredibly smart, observant, quirky and talented painter whose work has captured international attention. Her work is described as both "amusing and unsettling". She was so inspired by our song Uneasy Feeling that she made a painting featuring The Lovebullies! Check out her IG to have a gander!
